The State of Qatar signs official participation Floriade Expo 2022 with the theme “Desert Nest”
In the presence of Ambassador Mr. Al-Jaber and Deputy Ambassador Ms. Alshafai, Annemarie Jorritsma, Commissioner-General Floriade Expo 2022, and Commissioner-General of Expo 2023 Doha, Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Khoori signed the official participation contract of Qatar on Monday 27 July. This official ceremony took place at the Embassy of Qatar in The Hague. The State of Qatar participates in Floriade Expo 2022 with a design with the theme “Desert Nest”.
Annemarie Jorritsma emphasizes that we are delighted to welcome Qatar at Floriade Expo 2022. “We are all looking forward to the moment when it’s possible again to get together, to travel and to get to know other cultures and countries after the Corona crisis. We are pleased that we will be able to enjoy a piece of Qatar at the Expo next year without having to travel abroad.”
Qatar is also looking forward to participating in Floriade Expo 2022. “We aim to continue the cooperative link between our countries with trade missions and knowledge exchange. We are open to the exchange of knowledge between Floriade Expo 2022 and Expo 2023 Doha,” said Mr. Al Khoori.
"Desert Nest"
The design of the pavilion is inspired by the well-known 'pigeon towers' that can be seen in the country. The traditional shapes are combined with new 3D printing techniques and sustainable materials in the pavilion. Therewith, Qatar displays its vision, developments and innovations to make the desert greener in order to eventually realise green cities. Visitors will take a tour past 4 pigeon towers in the Qatar pavilion. These towers originally provided a resting place for pigeons in the desert. The exhibits in the two towers that are open to visitors tell this story with modern techniques such as holograms.
Sustainability
Qatar uses 3D printed materials that are sustainable and that literally become green during the Expo. Herewith, the pavilion shows the vision of Qatar, from dry desert to fertile land with plants as the foundation for a healthy city. All materials used for the pavilion will be returned to nature at the end of the Expo. Due to the Corona crisis, Qatar cannot work with companies from its own country and therefore the country will work with companies and suppliers from the Netherlands to realise the construction of the pavilion.
Floriade Expo 2022
For six months, from 14 April 2022 until 9 October 2022, Almere (NL) will be the stage for the International Horticultural Exhibition Floriade Expo 2022. During the Floriade, the Dutch horticulture sector, together with national and international partners, will show green solutions that can make our cities more fun, liveable and sustainable. The theme of “Growing Green Cities” is central on the 60-hectare site. The exhibition grounds are a short travel distance from Amsterdam and directly alongside the A6 with a view of the Almere skyline.
