The Hague Academy of International Law hosted His Excellency Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, as part of its 2025 Winter Course.
Ambassador Al-Qahtani delivered a lecture titled “Cultural Sensitivity in Mediation and Conflict Resolution: The Path to the Doha Agreement for Peace – Negotiations Between the United States and the Taliban” to participants in the Academy’s winter course, which included senior officials from various government ministries and institutions, as well as professors of international law.
In his lecture, His Excellency focused on the importance of cultural sensitivity in negotiations, highlighting Qatar’s long-standing efforts in mediation and goodwill initiatives, which have spanned several decades. He emphasized how these efforts reflect Qatar’s commitment to promoting peace and security on the international stage through its consistent diplomatic approach.
Following the lecture, a lively discussion took place, where participants exchanged views on the role of mediation in Qatar’s foreign policy and its significant contribution to fostering regional and global stability.
