In a new step that reflects Qatar’s commitment to expanding its international partnerships in the field of judicial law, the Supreme Judicial Council of the State of Qatar and the Hague Academy of International Law signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for technical cooperation via video conference. The signing was attended by His Excellency Judge Nasser Al Abdul Ghani, Acting Secretary-General of the Supreme Judicial Council, His Excellency Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and His Excellency Mr. Ferdinand Lahnstein, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the State of Qatar.
On this occasion, H.E. Judge Nasser Al Abdul Ghani stated, “This memorandum represents an important step toward strengthening international judicial knowledge exchange and building institutional partnerships that contribute to the development of national expertise. It supports our ongoing efforts to train judicial personnel in accordance with the highest international standards. We are proud of this cooperation with the Hague Academy of International Law, which is a globally recognized authority in the field of international law.”
For his part, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani expressed his great satisfaction with the signing of the MoU, noting that it marks a qualitative leap in the trajectory of cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized that the agreement embodies Qatar’s commitment to fostering collaboration with leading international legal institutions, in a manner that serves national interests and supports the advancement of justice and the rule of law.
The ambassador further highlighted that this initiative is part of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to develop and enhance its legal and judicial system, in line with global developments. It reflects the country’s keenness to engage constructively with international laws and standards and to strengthen its active presence in regional and international legal forums.
He also noted that the Hague Academy of International Law is one of the most prestigious academic institutions specializing in international law. Founded in 1923, the Academy holds a distinguished academic reputation and attracts elite judges, diplomats, researchers, and postgraduate students from around the world. It offers advanced educational programs in public and private international law, particularly in areas such as international law, arbitration, and dispute resolution, thereby contributing to the training and specialization of Qatari legal and judicial professionals.
H.E. the Ambassador concluded by stressing that this agreement represents an additional step in Qatar’s legal diplomacy, aiming to deepen cooperation with the Kingdom of the Netherlands and broaden avenues of mutual understanding and knowledge exchange across various fields of international law.
