Qatar Renews Commitment to a World Free of Chemical Weapons

The Hague-  July 10, 2025

The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to building a world free of chemical weapons, describing this goal as a collective responsibility and a necessity to protect future generations.

Expressing deep concern over the growing reports of chemical weapons use, Qatar emphasized that such actions represent a grave violation of international humanitarian law and a serious threat to collective security.

This statement was delivered by Mr. Jaber Ahmed Al-Kuwari, Third Secretary at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in The Hague, during Qatar’s participation in the 109th Session of the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), held in The Hague from July 8 to 11.

Mr. Al-Kuwari stressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation to prevent the proliferation of chemical weapons and criminalizing those who develop, use, or facilitate access to them. He also reaffirmed Qatar’s full support for independent mechanisms aimed at identifying those responsible for their use and ensuring accountability.

He further underscored the need to enhance monitoring and preparedness, provide technical assistance, and build national capacities. He called for the development of effective prevention and response mechanisms to address emerging challenges, contributing to a safer and more peaceful world.
