The Hague- July 10, 2025
The State of Qatar underscored the importance of harnessing modern technological innovations to support international efforts aimed at preventing the use of chemical weapons.
This was stated by Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al-Mulla, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in The Hague, during Qatar’s participation in the 109th session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), held in The Hague from 8 to 11 July.
Mr. Al-Mulla highlighted that these technologies are increasingly playing a pivotal role in enhancing monitoring and verification systems, thereby strengthening the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention. He also stressed the importance of using these technologies responsibly, given the potential risk of their misuse in the development or concealment of prohibited weapons. He called for the establishment of clear international standards to ensure the safe and responsible use of such innovations.
Moreover, he emphasized that multilateral cooperation remains the most effective approach to address the challenges associated with emerging technologies. In this regard, he praised the international workshop jointly organized last month by the OPCW and China on artificial intelligence and chemical safety.
Mr. Al-Mulla concluded his statement by reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to supporting technologies that contribute to enhancing collective security and protecting humanity from chemical threats.
